How to get to the Arousa River
Strategic connections: airports, high-speed trains, and bus network
MANDATORY INTERMODAL CONNECTIVITY
Located halfway between Vigo and Santiago, the Arousa River lacks direct links from the airports. Access requires a combined model: landing at peripheral airports and mandatorily connecting with train stations or regional bus lines.
Plane
The airports of Vigo and Santiago are approximately 60 km from Vilagarcía de Arousa. As there are no direct shuttles to the river, users must first travel to the land terminals of both cities to continue their journey.
Train
Vilagarcía de Arousa is the main railway hub. It has a direct stop on the High-Speed (AVE/Alvia) line that connects A Coruña with Vigo, as well as continuous service from Medium Distance trains.
Bus
The Monbus company centralizes land mobility by operating arrival routes from Vigo, Pontevedra, and Santiago de Compostela.
Key Monbus Lines
- From Pontevedra: To A Lanzada, A Toxa, and O Grove.
- To Cambados: Connection from O Grove or Santiago.
Car
The main artery is the Atlantic Highway (AP-9). From there, the detour via the Salnés Highway (AG-41) takes you directly to Sanxenxo and O Grove, while the N-640 connects the northern entrance to Vilagarcía.

Geographical Orientation
The Arousa River is extensive, and its points of interest (Cambados, O Grove, Illa de Arousa) are scattered. Check the distances on the map; moving between the northern and southern banks requires planning driving times.
