How to get to the city of Lugo
Access guide: nearby airports, bus lines, and high-speed rail
LAND CONNECTIVITY AND LINKS
Located in the interior of Galicia, Lugo does not have its own airport but is well integrated into the northwest highway network. Its access logistics rely on combining air arrival or high-speed train to Santiago or Ourense with a solid network of direct buses.
Plane
Santiago Airport (Lavacolla) is the reference terminal, located 100 km away. As there is no direct rail connection to Lugo, travel requires taking the daily Monbus services, tickets for which can be purchased on the vehicle itself or in advance online.
Bus
This is the main means of regional and national connection. The intermodal station drops you directly in front of the Roman Wall and the historic center.
Main Operators
- Galicia: Monbus (Santiago/Ourense) and Arriva (A Coruña).
- National: Alsa with direct connection from Madrid.
Train
The High Speed (AVE) train from Madrid arrives in Ourense. From that station, Renfe operates continuous Medium Distance links to complete the journey to Lugo.
Car
The Northwest Highway (A-6) is the main artery for entry both from Madrid and A Coruña. To get here from southern Galicia (Ourense or Vigo), the optimal and most direct route runs through the national road N-540.
