How to get to the Mariña Lucense

Access guide: nearby airports, narrow gauge road and Cantabrian highway

CONNECTIONS OF THE LUCENSE COAST

The Mariña spans over 100 kilometers of coastline divided between two poles: Ribadeo to the east and Viveiro to the west. Lacking its own airport, the arrival strategy requires using the terminals in Asturias or A Coruña and linking via the bus or narrow gauge train network.

Plane

The region is divided into two areas of influence. For the eastern zone (Ribadeo), Asturias Airport is 94 km away. For the western zone (Viveiro), the optimal option is A Coruña (at 108 km). At both locations, you can find car rental companies.

Bus

Connects nationally from Madrid or the Cantabrian coast operated by ALSA. Internally, the company Arriva facilitates local travel.

Arriva Services

  • Coastal Axis: Route Viveiro - Ribadeo.)
  • Seasonal Route: Bus to Playa de las Catedrales.

Bus

The narrow gauge line (FEVE) of Renfe runs along the Cantabrian coast covering the Gijón-Ferrol route with a scenic travel pace.

  •  Connector stops: Viveiro, Burela, and Ribadeo.

Car

The main entry axis is the Cantabrian Highway (A-8), which leads directly into Ribadeo. To move around the interior of the region and explore the beaches, the national road N-634 acts as the mandatory backbone corridor.

Coastal Dispersion

Keep the internal distance in mind: separating Viveiro from Ribadeo takes 50 minutes by car via the N-634. Calculate your accommodation base well in relation to the points you are going to visit.
