How to get to Ourense
Gateway to Galicia: AVE, highways, and intermodal bus network
THE MAIN LAND NODE
Ourense is the great geographical distributor of inland Galicia. Although it lacks its own airport, its strategic position makes it the epicenter of high-speed rail and the convergence point of major highways connecting the region with the plateau.
Plane
The airports of Vigo (90 km away) and Santiago (115 km away) are the closest. Neither has a direct connection; travelers must first go to the bus or train stations in those cities to link up with Ourense.
Train
Ourense is the main high-speed (AVE) station in Galicia, providing direct connections to Madrid in a record time of 2 hours and 15 minutes.
- Peninsular Network: Direct link to the central corridor.
Bus
Centralized operations at the Intermodal Station, strategically located next to the train terminal to facilitate passenger transfers.
Main Operators
- Monbus: Galician cities and Allariz.
- Avanza and Alsa: Connection Madrid and the peninsula.
Car
Direct access from Madrid and the plateau is via the Autovía de las Rías Baixas (A-52), which continues towards Vigo. To reach from Santiago de Compostela or the north, the reference fast route is the AP-53 motorway.

Thermal Access and Center
The historic center of Ourense is pedestrian. If your main goal is the spas (Outariz, Chavasqueira), the parking areas on both banks of the Miño River are the most practical option for leaving the car.
