How to get to Santiago de Compostela

Access guide: Rosalía de Castro airport, intermodal station, and highways

THE NERVE CENTER OF GALICIA

Santiago de Compostela is the main convergence point of the community. The Galician capital has a reference intermodal network, integrating the airport with the highest traffic in the region, a modern intermodal train and bus station, and direct connection to the major Atlantic highways.

Plane

Rosalía de Castro Airport (Lavacolla) is 16 km from the center. It is connected by the urban bus line 6A, with frequencies every 30 minutes in both directions. The route strategically passes through the Intermodal Station before ending at Plaza de Galicia.

Train

The railway station structures the Atlantic Axis offering continuous and fast transfers to A Coruña, Vilagarcía, Pontevedra, and Vigo. In addition, it operates direct High-Speed connections from Renfe linking the city with Madrid and Ourense.

Bus

The bus terminal is architecturally integrated with the train station to facilitate passenger interchange.

  • Regional Axis: Monbus connects with the 5 Galician capitals.
  • Comarcal Routes: Direct links to Padrón and intermediate towns.

Car

The Atlantic Highway (AP-9) crosses the city connecting it with A Coruña to the north and Vigo to the south. For trips inland (Lugo), the reference route is the A-54 motorway, while the AG-56 channels traffic towards the Muros and Noia river.

Historic Pedestrian City

Car access to the historic center (around the Cathedral) is strictly restricted to residents and authorized personnel. It is essential to plan your arrival using the peripheral underground parking (Xoán XXIII, La Salle, or San Clemente).
